A Twist and Turn of Learning English

ALTSAQAFAH.ID – Learning English becomes something which is difficult for some students because it is a foreign language. There are four skills in learning English. They are reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Some of students can learn and master all skills easily. However, some of them think that learning English is difficult or even it is hard. There are some difficulties which is found when students learn English.

First, they have lack of vocabularies. As we know when we learn foreign language, vocabulary will be the essential thing. Why can be vocabulary essential? Based on Cambridge dictionary, “Vocabulary is all the words used by a particular person or all the words that exist in a particular language or subject.” It can be understood if vocabulary is words which can be arranged into a sentence or a text. When the students have enough vocabulary, it can help them understand the content of text easily and help them to communicate in English.

Second, some of students don’t have any confidence to use English in their daily life. They are afraid that their friend will do bullying. Why it can be happened? It is because of the wrong mind set. Their friend will think that someone speaks English is arrogant. They will start to mock them by saying “get over yourself!” That word can ruin someone confidents. However, if they have enough confidence, they will spread the positive influence to their friend to speak English in their daily life.

Third, the students think that pronouncing the words is hard because what they write will be different in pronunciation. The pronunciation is the way in which a word or letter is said, or said correctly, or the way in which a language is spoken (Cambridge dictionary). They might think hard to know how to pronounce a word when they have a conversation. The pronunciation makes the students doubt or even insecure when they want to speak up.

Thus, There are some difficulties that students face when they learn English, such as a lack of vocabulary, their confidence, and the pronunciation. However, they will be blown away by the students when they have an eager to master English.
